AIMS

  1. To promote the quality of religious life within the member institutes, especially in overcoming the factors of isolation and size;
  2. To promote the participation of religious men and women in the local church;
  3. To facilitate the sharing of resources and apostolic endeavours;
  4. To represent the opinions of the member institutes in consultations and to enable religious to speak with a common voice and to take common action.

MEMBERSHIP AND MEETINGS

  1. Every institute which is eligible for membership of the Australian Council of Leaders of Religious Institutes and which has members resident in Western Australia is eligible for membership of CR-WA. Each such institute shall be entitled to one representative on the Council.
  2. The representative on the Council shall be the Congregation or Province Leader or his or her delegate.
  3. In the case of absence of the representative a delegate shall be appointed by that representative to attend the meetings.
  4. Meetings of the Council shall be held at least once a quarter. One of these meetings, to be determined by the Executive, shall be the Annual General Meeting.
  5. The President shall preside at the meetings of the Council, unless the Executive determines otherwise. In the absence of the President, his or her nominee shall preside.
  6. The Annual General meeting assembles to hear the President’s Report for the past year, to receive the Treasurer’s Report, to elect members of the Executive as necessary and to discuss any other matters as determined by the Executive.

EXECUTIVE

  1. The Executive consists of the President, who shall be a Congregation or Province Leader, the Secretary, the Treasurer and at least two other members.
  2. At least two members of the Executive shall be members of women’s religious institutes and at least two shall be members of men’s religious institutes.
  3. The Executive shall meet at least once every quarter. In the absence of the President, the President’s nominee shall preside at meetings of the Executive.
  4. The Executive shall be empowered to speak in the name of the Council whenever necessary.
  5. The President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected for a term of office of two years, while other members of the Executive shall be elected for a one year term. Members of the Executive may be re-elected for subsequent terms.
  6. Nominations for positions on the Executive must be communicated to the Secretary in writing at least two weeks before the notified date of the Annual General Meeting. No member shall nominate another member for an executive position without that person’s consent. The Secretary shall circulate to all members a list of nominees for executive positions prior to the Annual General Meeting.
  7. The President, Treasurer and Secretary are each chosen in separate ballots where there is more than one nominee for the position. A simple majority of votes cast suffices for the election of these three office holders.
  8. After the President, Treasurer and Secretary have been chosen, and where the number of nominees for the other positions on the Executive exceeds the number of vacancies, members vote to fill these vacancies. Voting procedures shall take into account the requirements of 4.2 above so that votes may need to be cast separately for male and female members.
  9. Where there is a change of President, the incumbent relinquishes office immediately after the Annual General meeting.

FINANCES

  1. Subscriptions for member institutes shall be by an annual per capita levy on the institutes members resident in Western Australia.
  2. The amount of the levy shall be determined by the Council after the presentation of the Treasurer’s Report at the Annual General Meeting.

AMENDMENTS

  1. These Statutes may be amended at any regular meeting of the Council by a majority vote of the members present. Prior written notification of any proposed amendments shall be given to the members.

NOTE:   Under the current circumstances the Secretarial Role is being fulfilled by an Executive Secretary. In the absence of an elected Treasurer, the Treasurer’s role will be undertaken by the Executive Secretary.
